Mission Adventure Trust's aim is to bring adventure back into mission, here in New Zealand and in the South-West Pacific. MAT believes that real life adventure is vital to developing young New Zealanders, yet too few have access to outdoor adventure at sea despite ours being a maritime nation.
Sharing life-skills, our instructors lead adventure missions of several hours to several days aboard our sailing classroom, which also provides a ready-to-sail day platform for schools.
From our nation's foundation through to modern sport and industry, sailing ships have a prominent place in New Zealand life.
Learning comes alive on the decks of a sail-training ship which requires every person on board to be involved. This is participatory learning, and it's tons of fun for all ages!
We bought the boat Maggie- She is made after the style of the Chesapeake Bay Oyster Schooner. We have put her through tests and safety checks, we are now working on her to get her up to the standard required for her new role. Maggie currently is now out of the shed, in the yard by the slipway at Norsand's in Whangarei. She's looking great with lovely new white paint, and we have volunteer teams going up to work on her as often as we can - if you'd like to be involved with this then you can request to join our Mission Adventure Facebook group We are To see a the Gallery of Maggie see attachment.. Now it is time to expand the vision into reality that will bless - how can you be involved? Latest Newsletter for MAT Newsletters
- To give young people an opportunity for a life-changing, cross-cultural experience aboard a sailing vessel in the tropics or NZ waters.
- To serve the peoples of the South Pacific, in particular the people of the more undeveloped Western Pacific and even then the more remote islands. The most economic manner in which this can be achieved is by use of sailing vessels.
- To use sailing vessels to transport people or goods where needed especially assisting in effective Christian endeavour.
- To work with a range of organisations such as World Vision, The Bible Society and/or other groups that are active in these areas.
